Padauk
SOURCE: Cameroons and
the Congos, Nigeria
DESCRIPTION:
This African wood is bright red in color, deepening in time to a very
deep red. If left exposed to direct sunlight for a long period some
say the color will return to a dark brown. For indoor use it
normally settles to a deep red or reddish orange color. Wears well for our uses as well in light furniture which
we will produce on request.

Purpleheart
SOURCE:
Central and South America
DESCRIPTION:
The Purpleheart tree is said to grow to nearly 60 feet before the
first limbs appear. What this means for you is that seldom will
there be a knot found in your piece. While the color does vary [over
20 species of this tree] most pieces we send out will be a deep to
bright violet purple in color. When cut this wood is grayish brown
after sanding we set it in sun [where necessary] for it to regain
it's color. This is controversial, some feel the sun's UV rays
actually turn the wood gray again. In our experience the former has
proven true, the wood in our stock receiving the most UV seems to be
most vibrantly colored. Wears very well for our uses as well in furniture which
we will produce on request.

Chechan
SOURCE:
Central America, Mexico, Yucatan [Current supply is
from Belize, a small country on the southern Caribbean tip of
Mexico]
DESCRIPTION:
Wood is rich in color. Sawdust and shavings appear as chocolate in
color. Finishes to a very fine smooth sheen. IMO perhaps one the
most beautiful woods we deal with. Wears very well for most uses.
Would make an excellent choice for KH or Home furniture as well,
however please ask before plans go to far [see availability]

Lacewood
SOURCE:
South America
DESCRIPTION:
Heartwood is generally pink to reddish-orange-brown. Can be mistaken
for Lepoardwood. They are indeed a different species. Very workable
for our uses even though it tends to not have an extremely smooth
finish it makes up for this color and style. You just have to see
this one to truly appreciate it.
Availability: Good at present
